STATEMENT
ABOUT CHANDLER'S POETRY
POETRY,
as a genre, is the art of language. I write
and perform poetry embedded with rhetorical
and theatrical technique. Focusing on the
mode--the resources--of language, I use language
to exploit innovative uses of words as signifiers.
The mode of collage is form. Combining poetry
and collage as partners in artistic documentation
is a form of dual storytelling. Images and
words each have the potential to reveal and
illuminate ideas and feelings as well as being
ideal channels for educating and raising the
conscience of audiences.
Some poems focus on events in the lives of
protagonists, real and imaginary. Other poems
pay homage to figures from history. Yet other
poems co-mingle installation works with poetics
and by combining social science data collection
methods with art production to produce works
which are provocative or socially controversial.
Together, poetics and form draw on my two
great passions, writing and visual production.
